Hello readers of this blog,
first of all: Thanks for following my travel adventures. Originally from a picturesque village in the German Saar valley not far from the borders with Luxembourg and France, I have always been fascinated by the idea of living in different places – despite the fact that I come from one of the most beautiful regions Germany has to offer. After studying in Trier and Gothenburg, Sweden and working in Luxembourg, I embarked on my first working holidays to Australia and New Zealand in 2009 before moving to London. Here I worked for Canon in Marketing Communications for over four years before I decided I cannot let the only working holiday visa still available to me for Canada pass without taking advantage of it. In 2019, life unexpectedly took me back to where it all began – in Australia – and I now live in Perth.
On this blog you will find lots of information about working holidays, living abroad in Australia, Canada and the UK and travelling solo and / or off-the-beaten-track. I chose The One Who Travelled as the name for this blog following the Grimm fairy tale The Tale Of The One Who Travelled To Learn What Shivering Meant (zu Deutsch: Von einem der auszog um das Fuerchten zu lernen). Whilst the young man in this tale didn’t know what fear means, I fear many things but I believe it’s wrong to let fear or even one’s comfort zone get in the way of great experiences. Travelling has given me so much; for me it isn’t just about seeing great places. It’s about discovering and re-discovering who I am and what matters to me. Meeting all sorts of people who have different outlooks on life has opened me up to possibilities I wouldn’t even have considered previously. Travelling has given me the inspiration and confidence to keep trying new things. Living in different places and pursuing my passion for writing and photography are some examples of those.
